Ruth R. Lane |

Ruth R. Lane, fondly called “DaSha” and”Lil Sister” by her family, 85 of 37479 General Mahone Blvd, passed away January 31, 2012 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA. She was born in Southampton County on January 19, 1927 to the late Saint Paul Wellons and Julia Holloman Wellons. She attended and received her GED from Hayden High School in Franklin, VA. She retired with 21 years of service from Franklin Public School System where she worked in Food Services. She was an active member of Gilfield Baptist Church in Ivor, VA.
She was predeceased by her husband, James “Peewee” Lane and son James “Jimmy” Lane. She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Verdine W. Urquhart, Stoney Creek, VA, Carol “Dot” Wellons (Rendell) of Ivor, VA, Brenda Lane Betts of Virginia Beach, VA and Deborah Lane Rice of Courtland, VA; two sons, Edward Leroy Wellons and Willie E. Lane, Sr. of Ivor, VA; a special devoted nephew, Maurice Wellons (Ermma) of Miami, FL; two sisters, Odell McCluney of Norfolk, VA and Vernice Brown of Ivor, VA; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; 3 godchildren; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Gilfield Baptist Church in Ivor, VA officiated by Rev. Kenneth Ricks, Pastor. Interment will be held at the church cemetery. A viewing with the family will be at Gilfield Baptist Church on Friday, February 3, 2012 between 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
